Underwater Sculpture Snorkeling Adventure

It was a great experience, guides were awesome but the water was very cloudy. Pictures online are too clear, it does not look like that. Except that, the ride there was nice (about 5 mins) and the guides were great too!

This display of underwater sculptures is definitely a worthwhile destination for snorkelers visiting St Maarten. It is easily accessed by a 5-10 minute leisurely swim from the beach at the Divi Little Bay Resort. To get here drive to the resort, tell the guards at the security gate that you want to visit the resorts shops and restaurants (they are all nice), and park near the Amsterdam Cafe. There you will see the short walkway to the beach and the beachside lounges, shade huts and the freshwater shower. The rectangular bouys that surround the sculptures are easily visible offshore. There are even a handful at the site designed to be resting/viewing places for snorkelers. Fish life was not abundant at the site but I saw a shy barracuda, a scrawled filefish, several ballyhoo, sergeant majors and a variety of young colorful reef fish trying to make the sculptures their home. There was also a small stingray over the sandy area near the beach. Beyond the sculptures site you'll see a moored houseboat that is actually a floating restaurant. I've been told that it is the locale of several underwater sights, essentially a submarine trail for "hardhat" dive-walkers, that includes among other things a submerged helicopter wreck. I've not seen that but the photos look interesting. If you can visit this on days without any cruise ships in port, you might have the whole place to yourself...a delightful experience. Otherwise the site is frequented by many many snorkelers that arrive on boat snorkel tours. I have read reports that payment is needed to see the underwater sculptures but accessing the site from shore on an uncrowded day, I saw no one trying to control the access or collect any fees. It's free open ocean...just as one would think should be the case.

The boat was new and very well maintained. The experience itself: you have plenty of time, which is nice because you can take your time, but it was perhaps a bit too much time. The museum is nice, especially because it is organized according to a color system but quite small. We saw a number of beautiful fish. The guides (Davess & Tyrell) were very nice and also provided a lot of good information about the museum. I didn't give a tip because, as a woman, I only tip women, but they certainly deserved it because they were so sweet and kind.

We had an amazing snorkeling experience! The visibility in the water was very good we could clearly see the statues and the fish, which made it even more special ! The staff were very professional, friendly, and made us feel safe the whole time. Everything was well organized and the equipment was in great condition. I was lucky enough to see a sea turtle, which was definitely the highlight of my experience! I would highly recommend this to anyone visiting truly one of the best parts of our trip !

Tyrell and Davis were our guides and they were fantastic! Taking us out there they told us about how the statues were made, history of the island, and provided snorkel gear, fins, and some fish food too! (They also had floatation devices if you need them) Great area to be in with a good amount of fish to see.
