Under SXM is one of the most original attractions in St. Maarten. It combines art, ocean life, and marine conservation in one unforgettable adventure. Moreover, it is perfect for travelers who love snorkeling and want to discover something new beneath the Caribbean Sea.
Located in Little Bay, the site features more than 300 life-size underwater sculptures. Each one tells a unique story about the people, history, and culture of the island. As a result, the park has become a symbol of creativity and environmental awareness.
The sculptures rest only five meters below the surface, which makes them easy to reach for all skill levels. As you swim, you’ll see colorful fish, coral, and sea plants growing around the artwork. In addition, the sculptures are made of eco-friendly materials that encourage coral growth and help restore marine habitats.
Because of this, Under SXM snorkeling is not only fun but also meaningful. It supports marine life while showing how art and nature can thrive together.
Join a 1.5-hour guided tour and explore the sculptures up close. During the trip, your guide shares stories about the artists, the reef, and local legends. Furthermore, you’ll learn how each sculpture contributes to the island’s underwater ecosystem.
For a longer experience, choose the Snorkel, Sip & Sunbathe excursion. After snorkeling, you’ll relax at Miguel’s Hot Beach, enjoy a refreshing drink, and unwind on a sun lounger. In addition, you’ll have time to swim, take photos, and enjoy the Caribbean breeze.
All trips depart from Bobby’s Marina in Philipsburg, and because group sizes are small, every guest receives personal attention.
Visitors choose Under SXM for its unique mix of creativity and nature. It’s easy to reach, close to Philipsburg, and suitable for both beginners and experienced snorkelers.
Moreover, the calm water in Divi Little Bay provides excellent visibility, making it ideal for underwater photography. In addition, the tours are guided by friendly professionals who ensure a safe and enjoyable experience from start to finish.
As a result, Under SXM has quickly become one of the most talked-about attractions in St. Maarten.

5 months agoThis is definitely a must if you ever come to St Maarten. It’s such a unique way of learning about the history of the island. Derek’s introduction to the site was really fun and informative. The snorkeling area is only a short boat ride away and you get to see Fort Amsterdam from a different angle. When I went, it was quite windy but the ride wasn’t bad at all. If you get easily sea sick, I’d advise to take some Dramamine just in case. There’s a lot of wildlife to see so make sure you stop by every area of the park. It’s worth bringing a camera even just for the statues. Unfortunately I forgot mine. I can see myself coming back.

2 weeks agoDerek and Ashley were super friendly and knowledgeable! I really appreciated how they shared the history of Under SXM and the wildlife we would see prior to us getting in the water. The sculpture park itself was gorgeous and Derek even pointed out an octopus I definitely would have missed otherwise which was the highlight for me. 10/10!

4 months agoHighly recommend - the best & most unique snorkeling experience I’ve ever had! It’s like going to an underwater art exhibit surrounded by the most beautiful marine life. We saw hundreds of fish, sting rays and so much more swimming among the sculptures. Only a 10 minute walk from the cruise port. The owner and creator was on our tour and she was magnificent! How they made each sculpture is incredible and the meaningful connection to the people and culture of the island is represented in every statue. Our guide Ashley was great. Really an exceptional experience!

2 months agoExcellent snorkeling in the surrounding area, saw some large open ocean fish (Atlantic Tarpon, Great Barracuda, among hard to find puffers, schools of bar jacks/grunts/snapper, reef squid, and other reef fish). You’re in incredibly good hands with the boat crew, who free dove and retrieved my lost flipper about 25 feet down. Really nice folks.
